In a desperation to lose weight, many people turn to fat burners for help. Most fat burners are pills containing particular herbal ingredients claiming to increase energy or metabolism. Other fat burners suppress appetite. With so many fat burners on the market, it can be overwhelming to know which one to choose. That's why it's important to know how the various burners work so you can select the one that best fits your needs.
Natural Fat Burners
Often dieters want to try fat burners but are afraid to use drugs. Natural fat burners provide a way to lose weight without using drugs. Natural is defined differently in different countries. However, generally, it's a compound existing in its natural state, which is either derived from natural food or plants. Some fat burning natural foods include parsnips, carrots, rutabagas, radishes, onions and chives. Turnips, which are another fat-burning vegetable, serve as an excellent substitute for potatoes. Green tea extract is also used as a natural fat burner.
Stimulants and Non-stimulant Fat Burners
Stimulant fat burners, also called thermogenics, burn off fat by increasing body metabolism. Increased body metabolism produces heat, raising the body's core temperature. Besides increasing body metabolism, thermogenic fat burners also stimulate the central nervous system. Dietary ingredients found in thermogenic fat burners include ephedrine, caffeine, yohimbine and synephrine. Rather than stimulate the central nervous system, non-stimulant fat burners increase metabolism. Some of the major dietary ingredients in non-stimulant fat burners are conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), 7-Keto, L-Carnitine, hydroxycitric acid and pyruvate.
Appetite Suppressants
Appetite suppressants, which lower the desire for eating, are grouped into two main categories: amphetamine and herbal. Most amphetamines are banned in America. Be cautious of herbal appetite suppressants claiming to offer unusually quick weight loss results such as ephedra which has been banned by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) because of serious side effects.
Thyroid Regulators
Because the thyroid controls body metabolism, thyroid regulators are used to stimulate metabolism, giving a dieter increased energy, resulting in more calories burned. Thyroid supplements replace what the body would produce normally. This lets the body optimize and control the thyroid, allowing it to function at a higher degree than it does on its own. Guggulsterones and forskolin are the popular dietary ingredients found in thyroid regulators.
Blockers
Carb blockers inhibit enzymes that digest carbohydrates in foods. Usually the carbohydrates found in foods are the greatest threat to dieters because they make up most of the foods dieters crave. When carbs are consumed, it results in a cascade of bodily events, leaving the dieter hungry. They let the carbs pass directly through your system without increasing your daily amount of calories. Fat blockers work by binding fat into clusters and then eliminating it. This process prevents dietary fat from being absorbed into the body.
Misconceptions
Although fat burners usually are classified as weight products, they are not considered weight loss products. You can actually gain weight in the weight loss process because fat weighs less than muscle. In other words, even though your body fat percentages may go down, the numbers seen on the scale may go up rather than down.
Warning
Because it's uncertain that fat burners work or if they're safe if taken over an extended time period, caution should be used. Rather than totally depend on pills that may cause side effects or not be as effective as claimed, it's better to lose weight by healthy dieting and exercising. Even the best natural fat burners won't be effective without consistent diet and exercise.
